Pune University Appoints Committee to Review PhD Fee Hike
Pune, 1st July 2022: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has appointed a committee to review the PhD fee hike after the student researchers opposed the decision. According to the suggestions of the committee, likely, a decision will be taken to exempt the charges.
The university restructured the fees in 2019, in which the entry fee and coursework fee were increased. Thereafter, the fee almost doubled. Due to the outbreak of corona, the hike was postponed. After the pandemic, the university decided to increase the fees. However, student researchers have opposed this hike and stated that the fee hike is excessive and demanded to decrease their fee. Hence, the university decided to appoint a committee to review the fee hike.
Dr Sanjeev Sonawane, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, SPPU, said, “A committee has been appointed to review the fee hike, considering the demands of the students. This committee will report to the Vice-Chancellor Dr Karbhari Kale. Thereafter, an exemption on the fees can be considered.”
